Baby Lucas
His parents had been to Tresillian and had used a sleep consultant but were struggling to see what else they could do. They were sleep-deprived and were at a point where they were open to any techniques that would help Lucas sleep.
Dummy
As Lucas was at an age where he couldn’t find and retrieve the dummy each time he woke. This can be taught around 7-8 months. His parents were putting the dummy back in each time it fell out and this could be multiple times overnight. They just couldn’t continue doing this, as he just wasn’t learning to be self soothe and settle.
Outgrowing the bassinet and swaddle
Beginning to roll and break out of the swaddle, Lucas was struggling to link his sleep cycles. He was also outgrowing his bassinet and it was time for him to move to a cot. These were all big changes for Lucas and his parents were concerned about how he would cope. But they were happy to do whatever it took to improve his sleep and wellbeing. After an initial phone call, we chatted about how we could improve Lucas’s sleep and what the best steps forward were.
The overnight wake-ups were beginning to wear his parents down, we looked to work together with an Overnight in-home consultation. This gave them the chance to have Bubba Bedtime there overnight and guide them through any overnight wakeups and resettling. Giving them the confidence that Lucas could do this.
Solutions
We removed the need for the dummy and used a settling technique to help him settle without it. He made the transition to the cot without any fuss and he enjoyed having more room to move. As he was beginning to roll we weaned him off the swaddle. These were all big adjustments for Lucas but he did so well and embraced the change.
Having a consistent routine and approach really helped Lucas learn to self soothe and for him to sleep longer periods overnight. Within days there were some great results, he was self-settling faster and then beginning to sleep through the night. His parents’ love and support really helped Lucas achieve all his sleep goals. They now have a well-rested 2 year old little boy who is happier now and still sleeping through like a superstar.
